Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered common questions to help you get started with confidence. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us directly.

What is Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar Yoga is a precise, alignment-focused method developed by BKS Iyengar over 70 years. It emphasizes correct alignment in poses, uses props (blocks, straps, blankets) to support every body, and connects breath with movement. The method is suitable for all ages, fitness levels, and bodies—from beginners to experienced practitioners. Benefits include improved strength, flexibility, balance, injury prevention, mental clarity, and lasting confidence in your practice.

Do I need prior experience to start?

Absolutely not. We welcome complete beginners with open arms. We offer dedicated Beginner classes and Introductory Courses specifically designed for people new to Iyengar Yoga. Our teachers are skilled at guiding first-timers through foundational poses with clear instruction and prop support. Many of our most loyal students started with zero yoga experience. Your only requirement is a willingness to learn.

What should I bring to class?

Bring a yoga mat, a water bottle, and a small towel. If you don't have a mat, we can provide one. Wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing that allows you to move freely. Arrive 10–15 minutes early for your first class so our teachers can greet you, answer questions, and help you settle in. The studio provides all props (blocks, straps, blankets, bolsters) needed during class.

How do I register or drop in?

We offer both drop-in and pre-registration options for flexibility. Check our for times, levels, and format (in-studio or Zoom). Some classes accept drop-ins; others require pre-registration. Details are shown on the schedule. Payment is due before class. Contact us at +64 210 330 645 or email us if you have questions about registration.

What's the cost of classes?

We offer flexible pricing options including drop-in class fees, multi-class passes, and membership plans. Introductory courses and workshops have their own pricing. For detailed pricing information, please visit our page or contact us for a pricing guide. Payment methods include cash and Eftpos; payment is required before class.

Can I take classes online via Zoom?

Yes. We offer Zoom classes with the same quality instruction and teacher guidance as in-studio classes. Zoom is perfect if you prefer practicing at home, have scheduling constraints, or want flexibility. You'll need a mat, props (or household items like books and belts), and a clear space in front of your camera. Our teachers can see you on screen and provide real-time alignment cues. Check the schedule to find Zoom class times.

Is there parking near the studio?

Yes, parking is available on Great North Road near our studio. Please note that finding a spot may take some time during busy hours, so we recommend arriving a few minutes early. Our studio is also accessible by bus from Ponsonby, West Lynn, and Auckland CBD if you prefer public transport. The address is 147 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021.

What if I have an injury or health concern?

Iyengar Yoga is excellent for injury recovery and managing health concerns thanks to its focus on alignment and use of props for support. Please inform your teacher about any injuries, chronic conditions, or physical limitations before class. Our teachers are experienced in modifying poses and providing alternatives to keep you safe. If you have serious health concerns, consult your doctor and discuss them with our teachers—we'll work together to create a supportive practice for you.
